CHARLOTTE – The No. 18 Southern Miss baseball team continues its long stretch away from home this weekend as they take on the Charlotte 49ers in a Conference USA three-game series at Hayes Stadium.
The Golden Eagles (20-8 overall, 7-2 C-USA) started this current span of eight of nine games away from Pete Taylor Park Tuesday night when they defeated No. 7 Ole Miss Tuesday night at Trustmark Park 10-7.
Southern Miss has won 10 of its last 12 games and looks to continue to hold first place in the C-USA standings as they currently hold a one-game lead over Louisiana Tech and Florida Atlantic heading into the weekend.
Charlotte (17-11, 4-5) enters the weekend having dropped its last four contests including a midweek trip to Winthrop and were swept at UTSA last weekend.
The Golden Eagles, which make their first trip to Charlotte since the 2016 season, leads the series 41-20 and have won 13 of the last 14 contests in the series.
Over the last 12 games, the Golden Eagles are hitting .319 as a team and seven players are currently hitting over the .300 mark during this span, including Dustin Dickerson who is at .412, while Will McGillis is at .409. The other include Slade Wilks at .370, Christopher Sargent at .352, Rodrigo Montenegro at .342, Reece Ewing at .326 and Carson Paetow at .302.
The pitching staff has posted a 3.74 earned run average during this stretch with 147 strikeouts and just 33 walks while opponents are hitting just .224 during this stretch.
