Golden Eagles Take Aim at First Win in Sunday Road Test

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Soccer continues its 2025 season on the road this Sunday, traveling to Baton Rouge, La., for a non-conference contest against Southern University. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. CT at A.W. Mumford Stadium.

The Golden Eagles (0-1, 0-0) look to bounce back following Thursday's season opener at Memphis, where they fell 6-0 to the Tigers. Goalkeepers Maddie Ellis and Lena Blake combined for five saves in the match, while Zayla Reagan registered the team's lone shot on goal in the second half.
A total of 20 Golden Eagles saw action in the opener, including several newcomers making their Southern Miss debuts. The match also featured starts from eight returning players, including senior defenders Taylor Stewart and Mallory Tapper, who each played for a full 90 minutes.
Sunday's contest marks the first meeting between Southern Miss and Southern since 2019, when the Golden Eagles secured an emphatic 8-0 win in Hattiesburg. It will also serve as the Jaguars' 2025 season opener.
Following Sunday's contest, Southern Miss returns to action on Thursday, Aug. 21, when the team travels to face Auburn at the Auburn Soccer Complex. Airtime is set for 6:30 p.m. CT, with first kick scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CT. The match will stream live on SECN+.
