Golden Eagles Held Scoreless in Road Loss to Southern

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Soccer (0-2-0) lost in a 0-1 outing to Southern University on Sunday afternoon at A.W. Mumford Stadium in Baton Rouge.
The Lady Jaguars struck early in the 14th minute, as J'Lea Berry found the back of the net off an assist from Gia Johnson. Despite the early setback, the Golden Eagles responded with steady pressure throughout the match, outshooting Southern 16-3 and holding a 5-2 edge in shots on goal.
Zayla Reagan led the Golden Eagles with five shots, including one on target, while Chloe Taylor and Rhyleigh Marks each recorded key attempts late in the second half. Marks' strike in the 89th minute was one of two late efforts saved by Southern goalkeeper Ava Droze, who came on at the half and finished with three saves.
Southern Miss goalkeeper Lena Blake made one save and played the full 90 minutes in goal in her first start of the season.
Despite the result, the Golden Eagles showed encouraging signs of growth, controlling possession, generating 16 shots, and applying consistent pressure throughout the match. With continued improvement and momentum building, Southern Miss now sets its sights on Matchday Three.
