Southern Miss Returns Home Sunday to Host Louisiana Tech

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss soccer (4-3-2, 1-1 SBC) returns to Marshall Bell Track & Field/Soccer Complex on Sunday for a 1 p.m. Sun Belt Conference matchup against Louisiana Tech (2-6-2, 0-1-1 SBC). The Golden Eagles return home following Thursday's 1-0 win at Arkansas State, while Sunday's match will serve as International Day with a halftime recognition of international students and a soccer scarf giveaway.

Southern Miss comes home after earning its first Sun Belt victory of the season with a 1-0 result at Arkansas State on Thursday. Lorilee Taylor provided the difference with her second goal of the year in the 32nd minute, while the Golden Eagle defense protected the advantage the rest of the way for Southern Miss' third clean sheet of the season.
The win moved Coach Danny Owens' group to 3-2 away from Hattiesburg and gave Southern Miss victories in three of its last four matches. Through nine contests, the Golden Eagles have scored 18 goals on 121 shots while averaging 2.00 goals per match. Southern Miss has also held a 42-35 advantage in corner kicks and has outshot its opponents 121-112.
Ava Bynes continues to lead the Southern Miss attack with four goals, two assists and 10 points. Taylor and Ryan Smith are tied behind her with six points apiece, each recording two goals and two assists, while Olivia Tribolet has added two goals and an assist. Oliwia Loeman and Shaelynn Quick have also scored twice, giving the Golden Eagles five players with multiple goals this season.
Southern Miss has also produced three clean sheets through nine matches. Logan McGruder has made 38 saves in nine appearances and carries a .731 save percentage, while the Golden Eagles enter Sunday with a 1.56 team goals-against average.
Sunday brings a familiar opponent back to Hattiesburg as Louisiana Tech competes in its first season as a member of the Sun Belt. The programs spent eight seasons together in Conference USA and will meet for the 15th time overall. Louisiana Tech leads the series 7-4-3, while Southern Miss owns a 4-2-2 record against the Bulldogs in Hattiesburg. The Golden Eagles won the most recent meeting, 1-0, on Sept. 7, 2025, at the Bell Complex.
Louisiana Tech enters Sunday after a 2-0 loss to App State on Thursday. The Bulldogs opened conference play with a 1-1 draw at Marshall and have scored 11 goals through 10 matches while averaging 11.6 shots per contest. Abby Hanton leads Louisiana Tech with three goals, three assists and nine points, while Madison Pensom has also scored three times. Reagan Roberts follows with two goals and two assists.
The Bulldogs have faced 215 shots through 10 matches and have made 80 saves, numbers that have kept their goalkeepers busy throughout the opening half of the season. Louisiana Tech has allowed 22 goals while producing 44 corner kicks of its own.
Sunday begins a two-match homestand for Southern Miss as the Golden Eagles continue through the early portion of Sun Belt play.
