Live Stats
Southern Miss carries its best stretch of the season into Saturday after wins over Arkansas State and Louisiana Tech pushed the Golden Eagles to 2-1 in Sun Belt play. Coach Danny Owens' group has won four of its last five overall, scoring 13 goals across that stretch, and Sunday's 2-1 victory over Louisiana Tech gave Southern Miss consecutive conference wins for the first time since October 2024.
The Golden Eagles have produced 20 goals through 10 matches while averaging 14.1 shots per contest. Ava Bynes and Shaelynn Quick share the team lead with four goals apiece, with Bynes holding a team-best 10 points. Quick moved alongside her after scoring both goals against Louisiana Tech, her second career brace. Ryan Smith and Lorilee Taylor have each added two goals and two assists, while five different Golden Eagles have recorded a game-winning goal this season.
Sunday's win also showed another step forward from the Southern Miss attack. The Golden Eagles generated 20 shots against Louisiana Tech, the program's highest total in a Sun Belt match since joining the conference, and put 10 of those attempts on frame. Taylor supplied a match-high seven shots, while Quick placed four of her five attempts on goal. Argentina Estrada added the assist on the opening goal for her first point as a Golden Eagle.
Louisiana comes to Hattiesburg with one of the Sun Belt's most productive attacks. The Ragin' Cajuns have scored 35 goals in 12 matches, an average of 2.92 per game, while putting 82 of their 172 shots on frame. Louisiana is unbeaten in its last five at 4-0-1 and most recently rolled past Troy, 5-0, with five different players finding the net.
Miku Kurihara has driven much of that production. The midfielder leads Louisiana with 10 goals and 23 points and became just the fourth player in program history to reach double-digit goals in a season with her strike against Troy. Carson Glenn follows with six goals, four assists and 16 points, while Maiya Clark and Maria Reyes have each scored three times. Louisiana's 8-2-2 start includes a 3-2 victory over then-No. 15 Texas State, the first win over a nationally ranked opponent in program history.
Saturday marks the 12th meeting between Southern Miss and Louisiana in a series that has produced different results in each of the last two seasons. The Golden Eagles earned a 4-1 victory in Hattiesburg in 2024 before Louisiana responded with a 5-0 win in Lafayette last season. Southern Miss is 3-2 against the Ragin' Cajuns at home and trails the all-time series 6-4-1.
With both teams entering the weekend above .500 in conference play, Saturday gives Southern Miss another early Sun Belt test and an opportunity to extend a run that has already produced four wins in five matches.
