SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State scored three times in the bottom of the ninth with the winning run scoring on a hit by pitch to outlast Southern Miss 11-10 Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Ballpark.

The Golden Eagles (24-12 overall, 10-5 Sun Belt) got two home runs and seven RBI from second baseman Nick Monistere, but that wasn't enough as the Golden Eagles rallies from 4-0 and 6-3 deficits were not enough to capture the contest.

Down 10-8 heading into the bottom of the ninth, Chase Mora led off the frame with a single. After a strikeout, Alan Shibley doubled. The Bobcats stuck out again before Rashawn Galloway completed a three-hit, three-RBI day with a two-run single to tie the game.

Colby Allen then gave up a walk before being replaced by Josh Och who hit both batters he faced, the second one driving in the game-winning run.

The Bobcats (17-18, 7-8) scored three times on four hits with a couple of Golden Eagle errors mixed in during the first. They followed with another run in the second on a Ryne Farber double – his second of the game – to make the score 4-0.

It was Monistere, though, who cut the Bobcats lead in half with a third-inning, two-run home run before a grounder by Tucker Stockman plated a third visitor's run in the frame. A two-run triple from Zachary Gingrich in the bottom half of the inning made the score 6-3.

The Golden Eagle then added a run in the fifth on a Matthew Russo homer to right, his 10th, before Monistere gave Southern Miss the lead in the next stanza with a three-run round-tripper to center. It was his 10th of the year and first two-homer game of the year.

Monistere then followed with a two-run single in the seventh, before Russo added an RBI single to make the score 10-6.
The Bobcats came back with five runs over the final two innings as Samson Pugh hit a two-run homer in the eighth to cut the gap to just two runs, setting up the last-inning comeback.

Allen (3-4) suffered the loss by allowing five runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Landen Payne helped keep the Bobcats off the board during the middle innings as he retired all 11 batters he faced with seven strikeouts, a career high. His 3 2/3 innings of work also marked a career best.

Reliever Carson Laws (3-0) gave up three runs on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts over the final 3 2/3 to garner the win.

Southern Miss finishes an eight-game road swing Tuesday at Southeastern Louisiana. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
