HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball team's 2026 weekend starting pitchers could become America's rotation this summer.
The sophomore trio of Grayden Harris (Central, La.), Camden Clark (Laurel, Miss.) and Camden Sunstrom (Baton Rouge, La.) have all been invited to take part in the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp, set to begin June 24. All three have been assigned to the Stars team.
Harris, the Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year and Ferriss Trophy Finalist, compiled an 8-1 record with a 4.02 ERA. Harris registered a team-best 107 strikeouts with only 19 walks in 87 1/3 innings. He went five or more innings in 12 starts during the year and won his last four decisions to end the campaign.
Clark, who was a first-team All-Sun Belt selection as a relief pitcher and a member of the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List, posted an 8-0 record with a team-high five saves. He fanned 81 and walked 12 over 55 1/3 innings, while posting a 2.93 ERA. He appeared in 23 games with seven starting assignments.
Sunstrom, who was a member of the Round Rock Classic all-tournament team, moved from the bullpen to the rotation halfway through the season and made nine starts down the stretch. He posted a 6-4 record with a 3.10 ERA. He whiffed 80 and walked just 16 in 78 1/3 innings.
The team's summer schedule will kick off with three days of doubleheaders for a combined six games between June 27-29, as the Stars and Stripes teams will play three games apiece. The teams will travel to Burlington, North Carolina, June 27 to play the Appalachian League's Greeneville Flyboys and Burlington Sock Puppets at Burlington Athletic Stadium. The teams will then travel to Danville, Virginia, June 28 to play the Appalachian League's Johnson City Doughboys and Danville Otterbots at American Legion Post 325 Field. The exhibition slate will wrap up June 29 when the Stars and Stripes teams each play the Appalachian League Select Team, at the National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.
The Appalachian League is a summer collegiate baseball league that is a part of the MLB and USA Baseball Prospect Development Pipeline, and its Select Team will consist of the top players from around the league.
Following the three days of exhibition games, the annual Stars vs. Stripes series will begin June 30 at Segra Stadium in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The next three games will be held at the National Training Complex July 1-3, and the series will return to Segra Stadium July 4 for the finale. The annual five-game Stars vs. Stripes series is a product of the Collegiate National Team Training Camp that features 56 of the premier non-draft-eligible collegiate players in the country.
The Collegiate National Team, which will be named on July 5 following the conclusion of Training Camp, will then compete in the inaugural World Collegiate Baseball Championship at Taichung City Intercontinental Baseball Stadium in Taichung City, Taiwan, from July 11-15. The United States, Chinese Taipei Baseball Association (CTBA), and Japan University Baseball Federation (JUBF) recently announced the institution of this event, which will bring together four teams for a five-day tournament and provide a significant addition to the global baseball calendar at the collegiate level.
The Collegiate National Team will represent the United States in this four-team tournament and will play against collegiate-level players from Chinese Taipei, Japan, and Korea. The tournament will be split into three stages – pool play from July 11-13, semifinals on July 14, and finals on July 15 with gold-and bronze-medal games.
This Golden Eagle trio joins Tony Phillips (1991), Matt Wallner (2018) and Tanner Hall (2022), who have all earned participation on the Collegiate National Team roster.
