SAUCIER, Miss.-- Southern Miss brings the fall schedule to a close at the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational with junior Benjamin Fernandez going low. The event hosts six teams in the top 25; Illinois, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Tennessee along with the tournament co-winners Alabama and LSU.
Fernandez started the round with a bogey on hole 10, followed by seven straight pars and a birdie to wrap up his front nine. The Asuncion, Paraguay native opened his back nine with a pattern consisting of a birdie, two bogies and a birdie through four holes. He picked up one last birdie on hole six to cap his 1-under 71 performance.
"Our team was hoping to finish the final round under par to secure a few more victories, headed into the winter break," said Brescher. "Although we did not play as well as we'd like to in the final round, I'm still proud of our team and the way they played this entire semester. We have a fantastic opportunity in the spring and a very bright future ahead for this program."
Matthew Javier carded an even 72 through all three rounds of the tournament placing the sophomore in a three-way tie for 11th with most pars set at 37 and a jump in rank of four spots, tied-for 34th. Will Burnham fired a 2-over 74, going 1-over on both halves of the course with Walker Wise playing a clean back nine where he pared every hole to close out his 3-over 75.
Supakorn Amornchaichan shot his best round of the tournament going 1-over 73 picking up five birdies, three of which coming from the back nine whereas Jake Moffitt logged three birdies on his front nine followed with one birdie on the back half to finish 4-over 76 in the final round.
The Golden Eagles appear next at The Hal Williams Collegiate, hosted by South Alabama, on February 16, 2026, for the start of the spring season. Follow the Golden Eagles on Instagram (@southernmissmg) for the latest information.
