HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss baseball travels to face Louisiana in a key Sun Belt Conference series this weekend at Lafayette, La. The three-game set starts on Friday at 6 p.m., from Russo Park.

The Golden Eagles (26-15 overall, 11-7 in Sun Belt) find themselves in a three-way tie for second place in league play with Coastal Carolina and Troy, trailing the Ragin' Cajuns (31-12, 15-3) by four games in league play. With 14 regular season games left to play, Southern Miss plays eight at home and six on the road to conclude the regular season.

Winners of five of its last six games, Southern Miss got four hits from Nick Monistere and four RBI in a 11-6 win at Tulane Tuesday in its last outing. The team now has generated at least 10 hits in each of the last 12 games and in 16 of the last 19 contests. They are currently hitting .328 (139x424) as a squad over this 12-game span with 100 runs, 26 doubles, two triples, 18 home runs and 93 RBI. In over the last 16 games, the team has scored fewer than five runs just once.

Golden Eagle designated hitter Slade Wilks leads the Golden Eagles offense as of last as he holds a career-best hitting streak of 14 games. He is hitting .358 (19x53) over this time with four doubles, a triple, four home runs and 16 RBI. Davis Gillespie currently ranks second with a season-best nine-game skein.

Southern Miss leadoff hitter Dalton McIntyre also returned to the lineup Tuesday against Tulane and had a hit, while reaching base three times in seven plate appearances in the game. McIntyre leads the team in hitting with a .397 average.

The first game of the series marks the 62nd meeting between the schools since the 1925 campaign. The Golden Eagles led the series 31-30, after winning three of four over the Cajuns last season, including a 6-2 victory in the Sun Belt Tournament championship game.
