HATTIESBURG, Miss. –  The Southern Miss baseball team continues its seven-game homestand, Wednesday, when they welcome in-state foe Ole Miss to Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field for a sold-out contest. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
The Golden Eagles (36-12) still hold steady in the national polls which includes a No. 14 ranking by D1Baseball.com.
This will be the second meeting between the two teams this season, with the Golden Eagles winning the earlier season meeting 10-7 last month in Pearl. Danny Lynch capped a four-run, eighth-inning with a three-run homer to give the Golden Eagles their third win in the last five meetings with the Rebels (27-19).
The meeting will be the final non-conference tilt for the Golden Eagles as they have posted an 11-1 record in midweek games this season.
Getting the call for the third-straight midweek game will be sophomore right-hander Matt Adams, who has posted a 1-0 record with a 5.84 ERA. In his last start last week against South Alabama, the Pearland, Texas, native limited the Jaguars to one hit over six innings and gave up all three of his runs in the seventh to not figure in the decision.
The Rebels will counter with junior right-hander Drew McDaniel, who has posted a 4-2 record with a 5.27 ERA.
Golden Eagle shortstop Dustin Dickerson continues to lead the Golden Eagles offensively with a .340 average with a team-best 18 doubles and 26 RBI. Both Christopher Sargent and Will McGillis pace the Golden Eagles in home runs with 14 each, while Sargent leads the team in RBI with 45.
The game can be seen via ESPN+ and heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network.
Following the Ole Miss contest, the Golden Eagles conclude their regular season this weekend when they entertain UTSA for a three-game C-USA series.
