HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Captain Kendell Mindnich looks to lead her team in El Paso as the Golden Eagles face off against the UTEP Miners on Friday night, Oct. 22, at 8 pm CT.
Southern Miss currently holds a 7-3-2 overall record and a 3-1-2 conference record with 30 goals scored and only 11 allowed.
Series History: UTEP leads the all-time series 10-3-1. The first match between the two squads took place on Oct. 7, 2005 in El Paso as the Miners won, 2-0.
Last Meeting: Southern Miss previously defeated the Miners in Hattiesburg, 3-1, on March 6, 2021. The action opened up in the first half as Caitlin Pierce and Aubrey Olin scored in the 10th and 42nd minutes, respectively. Brazilian Alice Campos netted the third Golden Eagle goal of the game in the 74th minute.
West Division Leaders: The Black and Gold currently sit atop the C-USA West Division with 11 points. UTSA sit second with 10 and Rice are in third with nine points. USM has secured a spot in Boca Raton for the C-USA Tournament in early November, but the final position will come down to the last two games of the season.
Una Colombiana Fuerte: The freshman from Cali, Colombia, Ilana Izquierdo, continues to be a prominent driving force as she leads all Conference USA freshmen in points (16) and goals (6). Izquierdo came up with a moment of magic and netted a historic goal, giving the Southern Miss women's soccer program its first win over the Rice Owls.
Irish Ingenuity: Sophomore Blessing Kingsley continues her fine form as she scored the opening goal against the Rice Owls on Thursday, Oct. 14. The cailin now has five goals on the season and is second in goals for the Golden Eagles. She also has two assists, putting her point tally at 12.
