Four Place Top-10 at NCAA Indoor Championships

Golden Eagles finish highest in school history at the Championships.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – All four Southern Miss Track and Field athletes that competed at the NCAA DI Indoor Championships came away placing top-10 in their respective events. The team as a whole finished higher than ever before in school history.
Head Coach Jon Stuart
"I couldn't be happier with our men. All finished in the top-10 in their events today and we had three First Team All-Americans and one Second-Team All-American. The NCAA Indoor Championships are difficult to qualify for and tougher to make the finals in, but the four we brought were sensational."
Caleb Parker
Parker placed seventh in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.87, as well as being named First Team All-American. In the prelims, Parker nabbed a new school record with a time of 7.71. He competed against hurdlers from Florida, Kentucky, Florida State, Houston, Texas, Iowa, and South Carolina.
Eric Richards
Richards placed ninth overall in the finals for the men's high jump, with a mark of 7'2.5". He is a Second-Team All-American. Richards jumped against student-athletes from Tennessee, Alabama, LSU, USC, Georgia, Memphis, Nebraska, Florida, Kansas State, Virginia, South Dakota, Marquette and Missouri.
John Warren
In the triple jump, Warren placed sixth with a mark of 53'8.5". The senior earned himself a spot as a First Team All-American. Warren held his own against triple jumpers from Virginia, Texas Tech, TCU, Florida State, Florida, Cal, Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Indiana, NC State, Oral Roberts, and Akron.
McKinely West
The senior placed seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 21.12. West rounded out the Southern Miss men to be named First Team All-American. West went up against runners from Texas Tech, Florida State, Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, Iowa and Houston.
The Team
Overall, the Golden Eagles finished tied for 35th with seven points along with Nebraska, Akron, and Tennessee. This is the highest Southern Miss has ever placed at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Southern Miss represented its conference well, finishing as the only Conference USA men's team to place at the Championships. UTSA had a freshman compete in the heptathlon, placing 10th, and WKU placed 10th in the 4x400.
