Southern Miss Track & Field Geared Up for 2026 Sun Belt Outdoor Championships

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss travels to Mobile, Alabama, for the 2026 Sun Belt Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by South Alabama at Jaguar Track. Forty-four Golden Eagles consisting of 24 women and 20 men will compete at the three-day meet beginning on Thursday, May 14, and concluding on Saturday, May 16.
The Sun Belt Conference will stream all three days of competition on ESPN+ with live results available from Xpress Timing HERE.
At last season's 2025 outdoor track and field championships, Southern Miss finished sixth overall in the men's standings with 72 points and third in the women's standings with 97 points.
Southern Miss placed six men on the 2025 All-Sun Belt Conference teams with Piers Cameron earning first team honors; Javel Fullerton, Conner Mozee and Kelsey Singleton notching on the second team; and Zayne Palomino and De'Aundre Ward settling in on the third team. Nine women made the All-Sun Belt Teams as season ago with Jaellene Burgess, Taliyah Lindsey, Addison McLaurin and Alana Simon earning first team honors; Joidon Boddie, Cadence Lapp, Tacherria Lawson and Valencia Watson earnings second team honors; and Jelese Alexander finishing as a third team selection.
The Golden Eagles are making their fourth appearance in the Sun Belt Championships with the men's best finish coming with sixth-place finishes in 2024 and 2025. The Golden Eagle women set a new Sun Belt high with 97 points and a third-place finish at last season's championships in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Events begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday with the first day of the decathlon and heptathlon before the women's hammer throw opens field events at Noon. Men's and women's hammer throw, men's and women's javelin throw, and women's pole vault are all played as finals and will be completed by the end of the day, weather permitting.
Track events get under way with the women's 1,500-meter prelims at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by the preliminary heats of the men's 1,500 meters; women's 400-meter hurdles; men's 400-meter hurdles; women's 200 meters and men's 200 meters. The women's and men's 10,000 meters final ends the day with the women's starting gun slated for 8:40 p.m. and the men for 9:10 p.m.
Action continues on Friday, May 15, at 10:30 a.m. with day two of decathlon events with track events started at 11 a.m. with the men's 400-meter hurdles prelims. Other prelims on the day include the women's 100-meter hurdles, men's 110-meter hurdles, men's and women's 800 meters, men's and women's 400 meters and the men's and women's 100 meters. Field events on the day include the men's and women's long jump; men's and women's shot put; and men's pole value. All field events are final on the day. The women's 3,000 meter steeplechase and men's 3,000 meter steeplechase are also final flights on the day.
Saturday, May 16, serves as the culmination of the event with final events across the board. An awards ceremony is set to follow the men's 4x400 meter relay final at approximately 7:45 p.m.
