Southern Miss Picks Up Six Top Finishes at Jaguar Invitational

MOBILE, Ala. – Southern Miss men's outdoor track and field collected three first place finishes on the day with the women's team adding on three more for a combined six top podium spots in a weather-affected day at Jaguar Track.
Scheduled adjustments and adverse conditions did not dampen the Golden Eagles' ability on and around the oval. Three Southern Miss women finished first in their events with Emme Bates winning the women's 800-meters, Addison McLaurin taking the women's 400-meters and Kaylee Spencer claiming the top mark in the women's triple jump.
Bates clocked a 2-minute, 07.27-second time in her two laps around the track, leading a trio of Golden Eagles with Olivia Smith and Addison Rainey finishing second and third with a time of 2:13.83 and 2:15.22, respectively. Rainey set a new personal best with her time of 2 minutes, 15.22 seconds, while Alexane Hunte clocked a time of 2:17.19 to finish fifth in the event.
In the 400, McLaurin's 54.35 second lap gave her a new season best with Jaellene Burgess finishing in second place just behind her with a 57.38 mark. Spencer got the Southern Miss women their third top prize with a 36-4 (11.07m) leap in her final attempt in the triple jump.
Elsewhere in the women's side of the meet, Aryn Eady placed third in the discus throw with a 148-8 (45.33m) heave on her second attempt while Alana Simon made the podium as the No. 2 finisher in the women's high jump with a 5-6 (1.68) mark.
On the men's side of the day, Conner Mozee, Isaiah Lowery and Michael Kasemervisz all took the top mark in their respective events. Mozee and Chandler Taylor finished a respective No. 1 and No. 3 in the men's discus throw with Mozee leading all entries with a 174-10 (53.29m) fifth throw and Taylor marking a 162-4 (49.48m) on his fourth heave.
Lowery set a new personal best with a 22-10½ (6.97m) attempt on the long jump to lead the day while Kasemervisz took first in the shot put with a 51-5 (15.67m) third throw.
Other top three finishes on the day included Nikoby Johnson's 10.39 personal best in the men's 100-meters; Qamarion Oatis' 190-7 (58.11m) mark in the men's hammer throw; Maximus Littleton's 6-6 ¾ (2.00m) high jump to place second, Ryan DeBarbier's 187-1 (57.04m) javelin throw and Elijah Kellum's second place finish in the triple jump with a wind-aided 43-7 ¼ (13.29m) mark.
