The Golden Eagles (31-14) lost for the second-straight time and had an eight-game winning streak over the Green Wave (23-23).
Matthew Russo and Ty Long led the Golden Eagles with two hits each as they totaled eight in the contest.
Southern Miss opened the scoring with a solo home run from Joey Urban in the opening inning. Urban, batting second in the order, hit the first pitch he saw from Jude Abbadessa to give the visitors a quick lead.
A two-run second extended the Golden Eagles' advantage. After an out, Tucker Stockman walked and then went to third on a ground-rule double by Ben Higdon down the left field line. An RBI groundout from Lawson Odom plated the first run and Long followed with a run-scoring single.
The Golden Eagles added two more runs in the third to make the score 5-0. Kyle Morrison opened the scoring with his team-leading 13th homer to right center with one out. After another out, Russo doubled and then scored when Stockman reached on a throwing error by the Green Wave's third baseman.
Tulane got back into the game in the bottom of the frame with four runs of their own as they sent nine men to the plate. The Green Wave opened the scoring with a Chun RBI single and then got another run on a groundout by Jason Wachs. Matthias Haas followed with a two-run single to cut the gap to a lone run.
Russo hit the Golden Eagles third homer of the game, a solo shot for his ninth of the year, to help extend the lead to 6-4 in the fifth. A homer by the Green Wave's Haas in the bottom of the inning, his second, made the game a one-run contest for the second time in the game.
Tulane then tied the score in the bottom of the seventh on a Trent Liolios home run to right, his second of the year.
Teague Broadhead, who was charged with the game's last run suffered the loss and fell to 0-1 as he allowed a run on a hit while getting a pair of outs.
Sam Larson, the eighth of eight Green Wave pitchers, threw the final 1 1/3 innings and walked one and fanned one to get the win and improve to 2-2.
The Golden Eagles return to action Friday when they entertain ULM for a 6 p.m., game at Pete Taylor Park/Denson Field in the first of a three-game Sun Belt Conference series.
