HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss women's tennis begins a four-match road swing this weekend, opening at Louisiana on Saturday, March 14, before continuing the trip at UTSA on Tuesday, March 17, at Southern on Thursday, March 19, and at Mississippi State on Saturday, March 21.
Southern Miss carries momentum into the road trip after improving to 6-3 with its 4-3 Sun Belt win over Georgia Southern, a match in which Sakura Sudo clinched both the doubles point and the overall team victory. That performance helped Sudo become the first Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Week honoree in program history.
The opening stop of the trip brings the Golden Eagles back into conference play against Louisiana in Lafayette. The Ragin' Cajuns have won six straight entering Saturday's match and will be opening their March homestand when Southern Miss arrives at Cajun Courts for a 10 a.m. first serve.
Southern Miss then heads to San Antonio for a Tuesday matchup with UTSA at the UTSA Tennis Center. The match is set for 1 p.m. The trip continues Thursday in Baton Rouge against Southern before wrapping up Saturday in Starkville against Mississippi State.
Mississippi State will provide the final and toughest test of the swing. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 46 in the latest ITA standings, and State holding a 35-3 all-time edge in the series, including a 4-1 win in the most recent meeting in 2022.
Southern Miss will travel Hannah Chambers, Gagana Mohan Kumar, Sakura Sudo, Miranda Xu, Kamornwan Kornsila, Pimmada Lim, Mia Hasashi-Morrissey, Celine Mosteanu, Angelina Blinova and Manulla Persson for the trip, with head coach Piyanart Engineer and assistant coach Abhijeet Tiwari leading the group.
This four-match stretch gives the Golden Eagles a chance to build on last weekend's conference result while testing themselves across multiple venues before returning to Sun Belt play later this month.
