HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss women's tennis (7-6, 1-1 SBC) closed out a four match road stretch with matches at Louisiana, UTSA, Southern and Mississippi State. The Golden Eagles dropped 4-0 decisions at Louisiana and UTSA, answered with a 4-0 win at Southern and then closed the trip with a 4-0 loss at Mississippi State.
The road swing opened in Lafayette, where Louisiana claimed the doubles point and added singles wins on courts three, five and six to secure a 4-0 result. Southern Miss was still competing on the remaining courts when the match was clinched. Angelina Blinova and Sakura Sudo were tied 5-5 at No. 1 doubles before that match was left unfinished, while Miranda Xu and Gagana Mohan Kumar each had singles matches go unfinished as well.
Southern Miss then traveled to San Antonio for a matchup with UTSA. The Roadrunners won the doubles point with victories on courts one and three before taking singles points at No. 1, 3 and 5. The Golden Eagles had several competitive matches still in progress when play ended. At No. 2 singles, Sudo had opened with a first set tiebreak win, and Xu also had an unfinished match on court four. Hannah Chambers and Xu were ahead 4-3 at No. 2 doubles before the point was decided elsewhere.
The Golden Eagles responded in Baton Rouge with their strongest performance of the trip, sweeping Southern 4-0. Southern Miss grabbed the doubles point behind wins from Blinova and Sudo at No. 1 and Chambers and Xu at No. 2. In singles play, Blinova earned a straight-set victory on court one, Kamornwan Kornsila added another on court four and Mia Hisashi-Morrissey clinched the match at No. 6 to finish off the shutout.
Southern Miss finished the swing at Mississippi State, where the Bulldogs earned a 4-0 win in Starkville. The result wrapped up the trip and moved the Golden Eagles to 7-6 overall heading into their next conference match.
Across the four match stretch, Southern Miss showed resilience by bouncing back from back to back losses with a road sweep over Southern. The pairing of Blinova and Sudo helped lead the way in doubles, while singles wins from Blinova, Kornsila and Hisashi-Morrissey powered the Golden Eagles to their lone team victory of the trip.
Southern Miss returns to action on March 28th with a road conference match at Troy.
