
Baseball Travels South to Biloxi to Face Nicholls

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball team concludes a stretch of five games away from home when they take on Nicholls, Tuesday, at Keesler Federal Park in Biloxi. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
The game will be streamed via ESPN+, as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network.
The Golden Eagles (18-6) enter the contest having won their last four games and nine of their last 10, including a three-game road sweep of Sun Belt Conference foe ULM over the weekend. The recent success has boosted the program in the national polls as they rank as high as No. 13 by D1Baseball.com.
The Colonels are 10-15 overall after winning two of three at home in their Southland Conference series with Incarnate Word.
This will be the 50th meeting between the two schools with the Golden Eagles holding a 30-18-1 record. The two teams renewed their series last season after a five-year hiatus with the Colonels taking a 6-5 decision in 10 innings in Biloxi in February, while Matthew Russo's three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Golden Eagles to a 9-6 home April victory.
The game is the only scheduled contest for Southern Miss in Biloxi this season and is the 21st time that the program has played at the facility. Southern Miss has posted a 14-6 all-time mark there, which includes appearances three Conference USA Tournaments from 2017-19 which saw the Golden Eagles win the title twice and make it to the championship game another time.
The Golden Eagles saw their team batting average rise to .299 after pounding out 47 hits in their series with the Warhawks. The Golden Eagles also have pounded out 53 doubles and 34 home runs, including a team-leading nine from senior Carson Paetow who his 40th of his career on Sunday, tying him with B.A. Vollmuth for 10th all-time on the school's career home run chart.
Outfielder Jake Cook continues to lead the team in hitting at .480, which currently ranks No. 4 in the country. His average has been boasted by a current 11-game hitting streak that has seen him have five three-hit games and two four-hit contests during this stretch.
