Women's Tennis Hosts Alcorn State in Midweek Match

HATTIESBURG, Miss.-Southern Miss women's tennis (3-5, 0-2 Sun Belt) continues its homestand on Wednesday, hosting Alcorn State (4-10, 1-1 SWAC) at 2 p.m. at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex. The Golden Eagles opened conference play last weekend, falling in two home matches against Georgia State and Troy. Miranda Xu highlighted the Golden Eagles' showing by picking up two wins in singles play, including a 6-3, 6-3 victory over the Panthers' Sara Radojevic on Saturday and a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory against Troy's Leena Metwally on Sunday. Xu leads the Golden Eagles with six victories in singles competition this season. The Lady Braves opened up SWAC play at home with a 4-1 victory over Bethune-Cookman on Friday, claiming the doubles point and winning four singles courts to clinch the match. Alcorn State then suffered a 4-0 defeat to Florida A&M on Saturday. The Golden Eagles have won all of their previous meetings against Alcorn State, including 12 consecutive victories at home since 2005. Southern Miss won 4-1 in its meeting against the Lady Braves last season. Admission to Wednesday's match is free.
