Cross Country Places First at Azalea City Classic

MOBILE, Ala.- The Southern Miss Cross Country team placed first at the Azalea City Classic in Mobile on Friday evening.
 
The Golden Eagles had a showstopping race, with all ten on the roster showing great potential for the 2024 season.
 
The Golden Eagles had five runners finish in the top 10, which consisted of Maria Kaylor, Lexi Cooper, Corinne Croy, Emme Bates and Sarah Parnell.
 
Kaylor, a transfer from West Virginia, takes second place, finishing at 17:27.7 for her first race of the season.
 
Newcomers Cooper and Croy take the fourth and fifth place spots, with times of 17:48.1 for Cooper and 17:49.8 for Croy. Following them is returner Emme Bates, earning sixth place at 18:14.9.
 
Senior Sarah Parnell also has a strong finish of 18:39.7, earning her spot number ten for the Golden Eagles.
 
Kristina Stojanovic and Olivia Smith finished at places 11 and 12, with times of 18:44.4 and 18:55.8. Both averaged a time of just over six minutes per mile.
 
Kaylin Jackson, also starting her first year with the Golden Eagles, finishes in the 20th spot with a time of 21:00.2. Not far behind her is newcomer Sophie West in the 24th spot with a time of 21:07.1.
 
Sylvia White finishes 27th with a time of 21:34.7 to round out the Golden Eagles for the day.
 
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will toe the line again at the Southern Showcase in Huntsville, Alabama on September 13th.
