Baseball Returns Home for Single Contest against Southeastern Louisiana

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – For the second time in a week, Southern Miss takes on Southeastern Louisiana in non-conference baseball action as the teams play this Tuesday night at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field starting at 6 p.m.

The Golden Eagles (20-12) dropped a 7-6 contest to the Lions (19-13) last Tuesday night in Hammond on a game-winning home run in the ninth.

The SLU game marks the only home game over a two-week stretch as the Golden Eagles travel again this weekend o Georgia State for a Sun Belt Conference series starting Friday. The Golden Eagles went 2-2 last week playing four-straight times on the road.

After losing the SLU contest last week, the Golden Eagles then went on to win their 11th Sun Belt Conference series in their 14-series history by winning two games at South Alabama. The Golden Eagles won their second of three extra-inning games in 2024 with a 6-5, 11th-inning triumph on an Ozzie Pratt bloop single that scored Gabe Broadus from first. Billy Oldham limited the Jaguars to one run over 6 1/3 innings to secure the series as Dalton McIntyre went 4-for-4 at the plate. Pratt then went 4-for-4 in the final game and the Golden Eagles out-hit USA in the finale ,15-10, but the home squad broke up tie games three times in the final contest take the final game of the set.

Southern Miss center fielder Dalton McIntyre, who went 10x15 in the series and has a current eight-game hitting streak leads the Sun Belt Conference in hitting at .422 and is only the fifth Golden Eagle to be over .400 in batting average through the team's first 32 games since 2004. Jarrett Hoffpauir is the last Golden Eagle to finish the season with at least a .400 mark, collecting a .405 in 2004.

The Golden Eagles lead the overall series with the Lions 70-49 with Southern Miss holding a 44-17 in games played in Hattiesburg, including a current two-game winning streak at Pete Taylor Park.
