
Outdoor Track and Field Completes Regular Season in Home Meet Finale

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- In its final meet before the Sun Belt Conference Championships, the Southern Miss Outdoor Track and Field team collected 12 first place finishes and 42 top eight showings in the Southern Miss Open, which took place this weekend at the Marshall Bell Track and Field Complex.
The Golden Eagles got started Friday with three top places including in the women's triple jump by Za'Isha Fraser, who enjoyed a top 12.60 mark, along with Kaya Ludgood who won the men's hammer throw with a toss of 61.46 meters and women's javelin champion Arianna White with a throw of 39.55 meters.
Those winning ways continued Saturday as well with Erin Phelps winning the 3000 meters women's race with a time of 10:13.06, while Alana Simon captured the women's high jump with a best leap of 1.72 meters. The other woman's winner included Emme Bates for the 800 meters (2:14.94).
On the men's side, Kelvin Chiku captured the1500 meters with a 4:02.20, while Warren Williams won the 110-meter hurdles at a 13.99. Elijah Berry also collected a victory in the 400 meters at 48.00 and Javel Fullerton in the 400-meter hurdles at 51.87. Piers Cameron won the shot put with a throw of 17.95 meters and the 4x400 relay team of Berry, Omar Austin, Fullerton and Jacoby Tanner won their race with a time of 3:13.99.
The Golden Eagles return to action May 9-11, for the league championships.
