Outdoor Track and Field Women Finish Fourth and Men Sixth in SBC Championships

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss outdoor track and field women's squad captured fourth and the men team placed sixth in the Sun Belt Conference Championships which were concluded Saturday at ULM in Monroe, La.
The Golden Eagle women captured four first-place finishes and totaled 90.2 points as Alana Simon equaled a facility record with a 1.76 meter leap to win the high jump, while Trinity Benson collected a facility record of her own with a win in the 400 meters with a time of 53.02. Both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams recorded facility records to win both of those events.
The women recorded 14 top eight finishes as they scored in 10 different events over the final day of the meet.
On the men's side, the Golden Eagles recorded 86 points with one first-place finish. Zayne Palomino won the only title with a 2.19 meter leap in the high jump.
The men put together 11 top eight finishes in nine different events.
The Golden Eagle women finished in fourth place for the second consecutive year, while the men improved their final standing one place from a year ago.
