HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball team returns home for the first of four games at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field, beginning Tuesday evening with a midweek contest against Tulane. Game time for the contest is 6 p.m.
Â
The game can be viewed via ESPN+, as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network and through the website at SouthernMiss.com.
Â
After playing four games away from home last week, the Golden Eagles (15-9) return for four games at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field over a five-day period, starting with the Green Wave, before playing Troy Thursday-Saturday for the Easter Weekend.
Â
Southern Miss dropped a series at Georgia Southern last weekend, getting outscored 20-11 in the program's first-ever visit to Statesboro. It was the first league series loss since dropping two of three at Coastal Carolina last April and only the third in 12 Sun Belt series since joining the league in 2023.
Â
In the last contest against the Green Wave last spring, Nick Monistere helped Southern Miss rally from three runs down by hitting a sixth-inning grand slam to lead the Golden Eagles to a 10-5 come-from-behind victory at Pete Taylor Park on May 2, 2023. That was the seventh win in a row at the time for Southern Miss, as they swept the two-game season series from the Green Wave for the second consecutive year.
Â
Down 4-3 in the sixth, Christopher Sargent and Danny Lynch each singled with one out. After a walk to Reece Ewing, Monistere drilled a first pitch from Tulane reliever Jonah Wachter off the scoreboard in left-center field to give the Golden Eagles the lead for good. The grand slam was the first of Monistere's career.
Â
The Golden Eagles are set to give freshman right-hander McCarty English his first start of the year against the Green Wave. English is 1-0 this season with a 6.28 ERA over nine relief appearances and 14 1/3 innings work. He has fanned 17 and walked six this season. He got his only decision of the season in a 7-5 getaway day win over Marshall (3/17), in which he allowed three runs on four hits with a walk and two strikeouts over 2 2/3 innings of work.
Â
Some highlights from last weekend's series at Georgia Southern included Carson Paetow collecting five hits for the Golden Eagles, including two in each game of the Saturday doubleheader, while Nick Monistere retook the team's lead in being hit by pitch by getting plunked twice in the series. Will Armistead got a quality start in his outing on Sunday by allowing just one run over six innings. It was Armistead's season-high inning total in 2024.
Â
Following Tulane, the Troy series starts at 6 p.m., Thursday.
