Cross Country Places Second in Chile Pepper Festival; Oliwia Wawrzyniak Runs Another School Record

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.— Oliwia Wawrzyniak (Poznan, Poland) posted another school record to place fourth leading Southern Miss cross country in the 5000- meter run at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetteville, Ark., Friday afternoon.
Olivia Wawrzyniak was once again the top finisher for Southern Miss, as she notched another top 10 finish. The Poland native finished fourth, crossing the line with the time of 16:34.8, running another school record and personal best.
The Golden Eagles finished 2nd out of 31 teams posting 129 points with an average time of 17:18.
"I am pleased with how our ladies ran today. The girls mastered a course they had never run before," said head cross-country coach Nick Gibson. "We set additional personal records at this meet, and Oliwia set yet another school record. The girl's tenacity will be exciting to watch at our upcoming race."
The squad of Isabela Ross (Oak Creek, Wis.), Erin Phelps (Tallahassee, Fla.), Smilla Kolbe (Wedemark, Germany), Carlin Beal (Mandeville, La.), and Sarah Parnell (Auburn, Ala.) posted personal bests in the festival.
Ross continued her strong freshman campaign with a time of 17:01.7 for a 12th place showing, followed by Phelps with 17:23.8 for a 21st place finish.
Kolbe captured a time of 17:39.7 for 40th place, while Beal added a 17:49.4 to come in 52nd place, while Parnell ran a time of 17:59.4 for 59th.
Katelyn Cartwright (Hernando, Miss.) added a time of 18:19.2 for 80th place, while Rees van Voorhis (McKinney, Texas) rounded things out for the Golden Eagles with a time of 18:36.5 for 118th place showing.
Looking Ahead
The Golden Eagles return to action Friday, Oct. 14, at the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa for their last race before the Sun Belt Championships.
