Cross Country Travels to Chile Pepper Festival

HATTIESBURG, Miss—The Southern Miss Cross Country team continues its season at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday, Sept. 30, on the University of Arkansas cross country course at 4:30 p.m.
Chile Pepper Festival
The Black & Gold placed eighth in the meet seven seasons ago on Oct. 4, 2015, with 198 points and an average time of 17:50.83. Six out of the seven runners recorded season-best times in the 5k, including four with personal-best marks. Rebecca Ulrich was the top finisher for the Golden Eagles with a time of 17:23.16, finishing 33rd overall.
Last Time Out
The Golden Eagles opened their season with a 5000-meter run at the North Alabama Showcase at Joe Hunt Park in Huntsville, Ala., on Sept. 16. placing sixth as a team with 196 points and an average time of 17:38.18. Freshman Oliwia Wawrzyniak led the way finishing eighth overall to pace the squad and posted a school record with the time of 16:50.33.
The Breakdown
Making the trip to Fayetteville are eight student-athletes Carlin Beal, Katelyn Cartwright, Sarah Parnell, Oliwia Wawrzyniak, Smilla Kolbe, Isabela Ross, Rees Van Voorhis, and Erin Phelps. There are over 70 schools set to compete alongside the Golden Eagles.
