After defeating Southeastern Louisiana 3-2 Tuesday night at home in the only game during this stretch, the Golden Eagles have now won the first five games of this stretch, captured six-straight wins overall and have 14 triumphs over the last 16 contests.
The Golden Eagles, which have won all six C-USA road contests this season, hold a 10-2 league mark which if good for the top spot in the league standings. Southern Miss holds a one-game lead over Louisiana Tech and a three-game lead on UAB, UTSA, Florida Atlantic and Middle Tennessee.
FIU enters the weekend at 11-20 overall and in a four-way tie for eighth place in the league standings at 4-8 with Charlotte, Marshall and WKU.
In a series that dates back to 2015, the Panthers lead the overall series with the Golden Eagles 8-7, including a 3-6 record in Miami. The last six games in the series have been played at the FIU Baseball Stadium as this is the first meeting between the clubs since the 2019 season.
After allowing just eight runs at Charlotte, of which only four were earned, the Golden Eagles plan to use the same weekend rotation for the fourth-straight weekend with right-hander hurlers Tanner Hall (5-0, 2.17 ERA), Hunter Riggins (4-2, 2.25 ERA) and Hurston Waldrep (3-1, 1.93 ERA) getting the call in that order against the Panthers.
Offensively, Christopher Sargent continues to help provide scoring runs for the Golden Eagles after hitting home runs Tuesday night against Southeastern Louisiana. He now leads the team in both homers (11) and RBI (31) and has provided a go-ahead RBI in each of the team's last four contests.
Slade Wilks leads the team in batting average at .350, followed by Dustin Dickerson at .331 and Will McGillis at .288.
Following the FIU series, the Golden Eagles complete the long road-stretch Tuesday at Tulane Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.Â
