Southern Miss Cross Country Set to Compete in the NCAA South Regionals

HATTIESBURG, Miss.– The Southern Miss women's cross country team heads to Huntsville, Ala., for the second time this season after a successful conference win as they compete in the NCAA South Regionals hosted by North Alabama on Nov. 11 for a 6000-meter run at the John Hunt Cross Country Course.
"We are eager to be back on this course for regional competition. The girls are knowledgeable and comfortable with it. With their outstanding performance at the conference championships, they are ready to maintain that momentum and boost their mark here from the previous year," said head coach Nick Gibson.
Last Time Out
The Golden Eagles won their first-ever conference title in program history with four runners ranking in the top 11 and recording all-conference titles.
Oliwia Wawrzyniak has continued to be a strong lead for the Golden Eagles, finishing in the top 10 in every race she has competed in this season, earning Freshman Runner of the Year.
Isabela Ross has also had a strong freshman campaign starting her season with a top-20 finish and ending the regular season, capturing 5th at the Sun Belt Conference Championships. Both ladies head into their first NCAA South Regional along with Smilla Kolbe.
NCAA South Regionals
Last season the Golden Eagles finished 11th for the best mark in program history.
There will be 38 teams competing against the Black & Gold; The top two teams secure automatic bids to the championship, and the first four regional finishers also confirm an auto-bid to the NCAA Championships.
Lacing up for the ladies will be Oliwia Wawrzyniak (Poznan, Poland), Isabela Ross (Oak Creek, Wis.), Erin Phelps (Tallahassee, Fla.), Smilla Kolbe (Wedemark, Germany), Carlin Beal (Mandeville, La.), Katelyn Cartwright (Hernando, Miss.) and Sarah Parnell (Auburn, Ala.).
