Six Home Wins In A Row For The Golden Eagles

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss senior Alice Campos (Campinas, Brazil-Northwestern Oklahoma State) scored her first goal of the season in the 2-0 win over Little Rock, Friday, Sep. 3, at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex. The win in Hattiesburg sets the home win streak to six games.
USM out-shot Little Rock, 12-to-8, and on goal, 9-to-6. Southern Miss also created more chances on corners, taking seven, while ULR only took four.
In the attack, it was Campos and freshman Technayda Cobyte (North Miami, Fla.-North Miami) who led the way as each netted for the Golden Eagles. The Latin duo of Ilana Izquierdo (Cali, Columbia-Commeva) and Ariel Diaz (Lubbock, Texas-North Texas) kept their offensive momentum intact as they both contributed with an assist. Freshman Adaira Nakano (London, Ontario-St. Thomas Aquinas) also provided an assist.
Junior Alex Helbling (Highlands Ranch, Colo.-Richmond) made her first start in the Black and Gold, ending the match on a perfect note with a clean sheet and six saves. Six Golden Eagles competed for the full 90 minutes with the Colombian, Izquierdo taking the match's only yellow card.
Technayda "Nana" Cobyte opened the scoring in the 40th minute with a powerful shot inside the 18-yard box, whizzing past the Trojan keeper for the 1-0 lead going into the break. Brazilian Alice Campos needed less than two minutes into the second half to slot away her first goal of the campaign, giving Southern Miss the final scoreline of, 2-0.
USM travels to the state capital, Jackson, Sunday, Sep. 5, to take on Jackson State with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
