Southern Miss Welcomes Troy for Senior Day Sunday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss soccer (5-5-2, 2-3 SBC) returns to Marshall Bell Track & Field/Soccer Complex on Sunday for a 1 p.m. Sun Belt Conference matchup against Troy (3-8-2, 2-3 SBC). The Golden Eagles will celebrate Senior Day prior to kickoff, while the afternoon will also feature Fall Fest and Club Day activities at The Bell.

Southern Miss returns home with both sides sitting at 2-3 in Sun Belt play as the conference schedule moves into its final stretch. Coach Danny Owens' group has scored 21 goals through 12 matches and continues to create at a steady rate, averaging 14.1 shots per match while holding a 169-166 edge in total attempts and a 56-50 advantage in corner kicks.
Ava Bynes leads the Golden Eagles with four goals, two assists and 10 points, while Shaelynn Quick has also scored four times. Ryan Smith and Lorilee Taylor have two goals and two assists apiece, with Olivia Tribolet adding two goals and an assist. Georgia Gray became the latest Golden Eagle to find the net Thursday at Coastal Carolina, scoring the first goal of her collegiate career in the 88th minute.
Troy arrives in Hattiesburg playing its best soccer of the season after consecutive conference victories over Coastal Carolina and Louisiana Tech. The Trojans scored four times in Thursday's win over Louisiana Tech after shutting out Coastal, 1-0, five days earlier. Alaina Uncapher leads Troy with five goals, four assists and 14 points, while Irene Torres, Madisyn Marchesi and Isabella Hartofelis have each scored twice.
The matchup has favored Southern Miss since the programs became Sun Belt opponents. The Golden Eagles are unbeaten in five all-time meetings with Troy at 3-0-2 and have won each of the last three. Southern Miss earned a 2-1 road win in 2023, followed with a 2-0 victory in Hattiesburg in 2024 and took last season's meeting 1-0 in Troy. The Golden Eagles have allowed just one goal during that three-match winning streak.
Sunday's match will feature several activities surrounding Senior Day, Fall Festival and Club Day. Fans can take part in pumpkin painting by bringing their own pumpkin, while a raffle will be held for Southern Miss soccer camp registration for youth currently in seventh grade or younger. The Senior Day recognition will take place prior to kickoff.
