HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss soccer (5-5-3, 2-3-1 SBC) answered a pair of deficits Sunday afternoon to earn a 2-2 draw against Troy (3-8-3, 2-3-1 SBC) on Senior Day at Marshall Bell Track & Field/Soccer Complex. Senior Olivia Tribolet delivered the final response in the 83rd minute, scoring the late equalizer to secure a conference point for the Golden Eagles.
Southern Miss generated the better share of the opportunities early, putting together five shots in a three-minute stretch midway through the opening half. Tribolet and Lorilee Taylor each forced saves, while Ava Bynes, Vail Wartes and Maiko Kikuchi also tested the Troy defense. The Trojans struck first in the 25th minute through Irene Torres, but Southern Miss finished the half with an 8-4 advantage in shots, a 4-3 edge in corner kicks and 55 percent of the possession.
The Golden Eagles needed less than five minutes after halftime to pull level. Taylor provided the service for Argentina Estrada, who finished in the 49th minute for her first goal of the season and first as a Golden Eagle. Troy regained the lead through Brooke Ogorek in the 65th minute, putting Southern Miss in position to respond for a second time.
That response came from one of the players recognized before the match. Tribolet found the equalizer in the 83rd minute for her third goal of the season, bringing Southern Miss back to 2-2. The senior nearly turned the draw into a victory in the final seconds, putting another attempt on frame in the 89th minute that Troy goalkeeper Taylor Richards kept out. Tribolet finished with three shots, all on goal, while Taylor added her third assist of the season.
Southern Miss finished with 57 percent of the possession and held a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks. Both teams placed eight shots on goal, with Logan McGruder making six saves for the Golden Eagles. Estrada and Georgia Gray helped anchor the back line for the full 90 minutes, while Southern Miss played in front of a season-high home crowd of 347.
The result also extended Southern Miss' unbeaten history against Troy. The Golden Eagles are now 3-0-3 all-time in the series and 3-0-2 against the Trojans since joining the Sun Belt, with all three draws between the programs coming in Hattiesburg. Southern Miss is now 1-0-3 at home against Troy.
