HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss (10-1, 1-0 C-USA) Women's Tennis team etched its name into program history in Friday's 4-3 win over Jacksonville State (6-2, 0-0 OVC). The Golden Eagles' 10-1 start is the best in school history and puts head coach Steve Schram two wins away from 100 career wins.
However, singles play proved to be the difference-maker in the contest at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex. The Golden Eagles took four of the six matches in order to come away with the 4-3 win. De la Garza and Yazgan each added their ninth win of the season. De la Garza cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Moll-Alles to move to 9-1 on the season. Yazgan moved to 9-0 after besting Kaya, 6-0, 6-1. Lee was able to dominate Locati on court four, winning 6-2, 6-1. Burton rounded out the winners in a 7-5, 6-3 win over Marine Alberteau on court six.
Medik fell in straight sets on court two to Buechner, 6-4, 6-2. Lopez fell in a three-set nailbiter to Conejero, 3-6, 6-3, 10-6.
