Men’s Golf Returns to Action at the LaTour Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss men's golf team travels to South Louisiana to continue its spring season by playing in the LaTour Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday.
The event takes place at the LaTour Golf Club in Mathews, La., and is a par 72, 7,170-yard course. The 12-team event starts with 36 holes on Monday starting at 8 a.m., with a final 18 holes starting at 8 a.m., Tuesday. Both days will start with a shotgun start.
The Golden Eagles five-member team consists of seniors Walker Kesterson (Hartsburg, Mo.) and Matt Lorenz (Fairhope, Ala.), junior Brice Wilkinson (Madison, Miss.), sophomore Joey Kirkland (West Monroe, La.) and freshman Robbie Latter (Mississauga, Ontario). Junior Brian Richards (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) will play as an individual.
Southern Miss is freshman a tied for sixth showing at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate that saw the squad shoot a four-under-par as a team in the event.
Three Golden Eagles ended the event under par as Wilkinson finished with a three-under 213 and Kesterson and Latter ended with a two-under 214.
Latter ranks second on the club in scoring average this season at 72.44 and the Golden Eagle freshman class ranks No. 9 nationally on the strength of their entire freshman class.
The 12 teams in the field along with Southern Miss include Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, UIW, Jacksonville State, McNeese State, New Orleans, host Nicholls State, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin and Troy.
