
Black Squad Takes Series Lead with Game 3 Victory in Fall World Series

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Danny Lynch posted three hits and drove in three runs to lead the Black squad over the Gold 7-3 at Pete Taylor Park Tuesday night in the Southern Miss Fall World Series.
With the victory, the Black team takes a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-five series with game four set to take place Friday at 3 p.m. Please note the series is closed to the general public due to COVID-19, but fans can follow the live stats of the game at usm.statbroadcast.com.
Lynch helped the Black squad jump out to the early 2-0 lead in the third inning. After a leadoff single by Fisher Norris and a strikeout, Blake Johnson tripled to right to score Norris before Lynch knocked in his first run with a sacrifice fly.
Down 2-0, the Gold cut into the margin with a solo run in the fourth. Chris Sargent belted his first of two balls to the left-centerfield gap, with this one going for a triple. Sargent scored one batter later on a groundout by Reed Trimble to cut the deficit to one run.
A five-run rally for the visitors in the sixth broke open the contest as the Black team collected five hits and two walks in the frame to take a 7-1 advantage. Will McGillis opened the scoring with a RBI single, followed by a two-run single from Lynch. Billy Garrity and Dustin Dickerson each registered run-scoring singles to complete the scoring.
The Gold cut into the gap in the bottom of the frame with an RBI double from Slade Wilks and a bases-loaded walk to Andrew Stanley. Sargent hit a double in the inning as well, his second powerful shot to the gap, but the Gold left the bases loaded and could not cut any further into the deficit.
Ben Ethridge allowed just one run on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts to record the victory, while Drew Boyd suffered the loss, giving up two runs on four hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.
