HOOVER, Ala. – The Southern Miss cross country team concluded their season at the Conference USA Championship on Saturday in Hoover, Ala. as freshman Cassidy Teuscher and senior Kate Mattox both earned All-Conference honors.
"I just want to say how proud I am of this group," head coach Aaron Kindt said. "They've done a tremendous job these last few months to get themselves to this point today. My hat is off to them"
Teuscher was named Freshman of the Meet and First-Team All-Conference as she was the top first-year finisher coming in at 6th overall with a time of 21:37.31.
"Cassidy has been exceptional all fall. We knew she was ready for a good race heading into this weekend, but today she showed me what a big-time competitor she is. She did not back down to a really talented field at the top," Kindt added.
Senior Kate Mattox finished 15th for the second time in three races to earn Third-Team All-Conference honors crossing the line in 22:14.17.
"Kate spent last winter and spring in a boot not able to run and hardly able to cross train. It's a testament to her will and drive that she's been able to get back to All-Conference level in such a short time frame," Kindt said of Mattox.
Rounding out the top five for the Golden Eagles were Sarah McMillon (28th, 22:47.42), Savannah McMillon (29th, 22:48.56) and Carlin Beal who ran a personal best 22:54.10 in the 6K to finish 30th.
"Sarah, Savannah, and Carlin really came through for us this fall. We had to ask them to step into roles that we normally would not have asked of them at this point in their training and they have done their job admirably," Kindt concluded.
All Southern Miss runners finished in the top 50 as freshmen Sarah Parnell (41st, 23:19.25) and Hannah Martin (48th, 23:34.07) rounded out the Golden Eagle contingents in the meet.
