HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The No. 33 Southern Miss women's golf team moves a little bit closer to home for its second tournament of the fall, this time competing in The Ally from Monday to Wednesday in West Point, Miss.
The action will take place at the renowned Old Waverly Golf Club, a par-72, 6,377-yard course that hosted the 1999 U.S. Women's Open. Live scoring can be found via Golfstat.com.
The Golden Eagles will have its same five reps from the Lady Red Wolves Classic: Merche Corbacho, Tenley Moretti, Emily Cox, Valeria Pichardo and Julie Baker. They are also the only non-SEC team in the field, as Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt fill it out. In the most recent Golfweek rankings, Southern Miss sat ahead of five of those squads.
This is the fourth-straight year that Southern Miss has competed in this tournament, finishing Nos. 7, 14 and 11 in order of oldest to most-recent.
Cox has the most experience on the team in regards to the course, competing in each of those events. The Fall 2018 edition also saw Julie Baker card back-to-back 71s to reach sixth-place before rain washed out the final round.
Corbacho was the team's top performer in the season-opening Lady Red Wolves Classic last week. She finished 16th with a 4-over 220, including a 71 in the final round. Each of those were the team's lowest scores by a freshman since Julie Baker in Fall 2017. Moretti's 228, which included a pair of 74s, also marked career-lows in each.Â
