Cuyvers Holds Steady in First, Golden Eagles in Second at Tulane Classic

NEW ORLEANS -- Southern Miss enjoyed a strong start to the 2026 campaign, as the Golden Eagles are in second place after day one of the Tulane Classic. Louise Cuyvers is tied for first following the opening two rounds of play at TPC Louisiana.Â
Cuyvers started her junior campaign off with a bang, firing a five-under 67 during the opening round. Her six birdies along the way, including four in a five-hole stretch, tied her career low, and her score is tied for the third-lowest single-round score in program history. Liv Romer aided Southern Miss in the opening round with an even-par 72, which pitted the Golden Eagles in a tie for first with Tulane and Samford. Savannah Van Gaalen added a three-over 75, while Chloe Stevenazzi and Morgan Guepet both fired a seven-over 79. Playing as an individual, Ava Bates carded an 83 in her Southern Miss debut.Â
Romer's three birdies in the second round led to a one-over 73 in the afternoon. Cuyvers and Stevenazzi both shot a three-over 75. Cuyvers added four birdies to her total, which brought her to a field-best of 10. Van Gaalen carded a five-over 77, while Guepet finished with a six-over 78. Bates rounded out her day with a seven-over 79.Â
Cuyvers is tied for first heading into Tuesday's final round, paired with San Diego State's Amelia Garibaldi. Meanwhile, Romer is tied for fourth, and Van Gaalen is tied for 29th. Southern Miss will tee off the final round on Wednesday at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. The Golden Eagles trail Tulane by six strokes and lead Samford by a stroke.
