HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss men's golf team returns to action this week when they travel to Birmingham, Ala., for the 54-hole Graeme McDowell Invitational, hosted by UAB and played at the Greystone Golf and Country Club.
The Golden Eagles, one of 19 teams in the event, are set to play 36 holes on Monday and a final round of 18 on Tuesday at the par 72, 7,293-yard course.
Along with host UAB and the Golden Eagles, the other teams will include Arkansas State, Chattanooga, High Point, Jacksonville State, Lipscomb, Louisiana-Lafayette, Memphis, Nicholls State, North Florida, Samford, South Carolina, Southern Illinois, Troy, ULM, Winthrop, WKU and Wofford.
In their first tournament of the season, the Golden Eagles tied for second earlier this month at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate, which was played at the Hattiesburg Country Club.
Southern Miss collected school-record low team totals for a round, as well as 36 and 54 holes.
The Golden Eagles shot a school-record low 272 over the final round, after firing a school-record best 557 for the first two rounds, as well as establishing a 54-hole mark of 829. Southern Miss finished the event at 23-under-par.
A strong final day from both senior Walker Kesterson (Hartsburg, Mo.) and junior Brice Wilkinson (Madison, Miss.) allowed each player to tie for fifth in the final individual standings with a 206 score.
Wilkinson and Kesterson, along with senior Matt Lorenz (Fairhope, Ala.), freshman Robbie Latter (Mississauga, Ontario) and freshman Thongpipat Rattanayanon (Bangkok, Thailand) round out the Golden Eagle team set to compete in Birmingham.
