Southern Miss TF Ready For Regionals

The action begins Thursday in Jacksonville, Fla.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The select men and women of Southern Miss track and field are ready to compete for their shot at making the NCAA National Championship this weekend as they take part in the NCAA East Regional Preliminary rounds, hosted by the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.
The Preliminaries will take place from May 23-25 at Hodges Stadium.
Southern Miss Competitors
McKinely West will be competing in the 100m, 200m, and will run a leg of the 4x100m relay. For the 100m, he will be in the first heat, situated in lane seven. His top time this season was a 10.13. For the 200m, West will race in the fourth heat in lane three. His best time this season is a 20.61.
Freshman Trey Johnson will race in the 400m, and will be in the sixth heat in lane four. Johnson's best time this season is a 46.35.
Rian Robinson will also be competing in the 400m. The senior will be in the sixth heat, in the seventh lane. Robinson has a season-best of 53.85.
Caleb Parker will be competing in the 110m hurdles. The junior is in the third heat, racing in lane nine. His top time this season is a 13.73.
For all races mentioned above, the top three from each of the six heats as well as the next six times will advance to the quarterfinals. The top three from the quarterfinals plus the next best three times will move on to the NCAA Championships.
In the 4x100m relay will be Chedlin Sagesse, McKinely West, Trey Johnson, and Elijah Burton. They will be in the first heat, situated in lane four, boasting a season-best time of 39.97. For the relay, there is one round of three heats. The top three from each heat as well as the next three times will go to Austin.
Both Eric Richards and Caleb Parker will be competing in the men's high jump. Richards has a season-best height of 2.20m, and Parker has a season-best of 2.16m. They will both be in the first flight. The top 12 overall will go to the National Championships, with the bar progressing as follows: 201, 206, 211, 216, 219, and then 3cm at a time.
In the men's long jump are senior John Warren and junior Eric Washington. The two are in the second flight of four seeded flights. Warren's season-best is 7.55m, whereas Washington's is 7.60m. The top 12 placers will advance to the Championships in Austin.
Warren will also compete in the triple jump, and is in the fourth flight. His season-best mark is 16.26m. Just like the long jump, the top 12 will advance on.
Senior Danisha Jones will be in the second of three seeded flights, with a season-best mark of 52.40m. The top 12 placers advance to Nationals.
In flight three of the javelin is sophomore Callie Jones. Her season-best mark is a 51.05m throw. The top 12 placers from the three flights will advance.
