Southern Miss Cross Country Races in South Regional Championships on Friday

The Golden Eagles will have seven runners in the race in Tallahassee.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss cross country team is set to race in the NCAA South Regional Championships in Tallahassee, Fla. on Friday, Nov. 15.
Southern Miss will have seven women racing in the 6k, hosted by Florida State. The starting gun will pop at Apalachee Regional Park at 8:30 a.m. Freshman Katelyn Cartwright, senior Monika Gebarzewska, redshirt junior Emma Kate Holdbrooks, sophomore Lina May, junior Kate Mattox, and seniors Regen McGee and Sandra Szpott will all be running for the Black and Gold.
Of the seven, four earned All-Conference honors at the Conference USA Championships over a week ago. Szpott, Holdbrooks, and May all earned Second Team recognition while Mattox earned Third Team. Â
Four of the seven racing have recorded new personal bests in both the 5k and the 6k and one has recorded a new best in the 6k.
All of the returners who are racing on Friday also raced in the Regional Championships last season. As a whole, they finished in 11th place out of the 30 racing, with a total team time of 1:49:01 and an average of 21:48.24 in the 6k. Szpott finished in 13th, Mattox in 33rd, Holdbrooks in 59th, Gebarzewska in 66th, McGee in 77th and May in 86th.Â
