Southern Miss TF Heads to Vanderbilt

The Golden Eagles of Southern Miss track & field are set to compete in the Vanderbilt Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss track and field team travels to Nashville, Tenn. on Friday for their second meet of the indoor season. They are set to compete in the Vanderbilt Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Vandy Fieldhouse.
The University has been hosting the Vanderbilt Indoor Opener since 2013. Southern Miss heads to the meet with several first-place finishers from the Blazer Invitational and look forward to the upcoming challenge. The Golden Eagles are one of just 20 squads entered to compete this weekend at Vandy Fieldhouse.
Last Time Out
McKinely West, John Warren and Kate Mattox all brought home first-place finishes from the Blazer Invitational held at UAB just a week ago, with many of their teammates also posting top-15 and top-10 finishes.
At last year's installment of the Vanderbilt Invitational, Southern Miss broke a school record on the opening day. West, who had broken two school records just a week before, broke his own record again on the first day, finishing the 200m with a time of 21.39 and earning himself a first-place finish. The Golden Eagles had top-10 finishers in the men's 200m, men's long jump, women's high jump, women's weight throw, all on just the first day of competition. The second day, Southern Miss had an event win and three more school records shattered. John Warren broke the triple jump record, winning the event, with a 52'8" mark, previously held by Christopher Monroe from 2016 with a mark of 50'11". Caleb Parker broke the 60m hurdles record with a time of 7.77 placing second, with the previous record held by Randy McCoy (2014) with a time of 7.79. McKinely West, Alexander Richemond, Kacey Spinks and Lorenzen Burton rounded out the record-breakers, shattering the 4x4 record with a time of 3:12.82.
