Golden Eagle Soccer Tops Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 2-1

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Chelsea Cruthirds and Elisha Tarbell scored early and the Southern Miss Golden Eagles (3-3-1) hung on for a 2-1 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-4-0) on Sunday at the Bulldog Classic in Starkville.
Cruthirds and Tarbell were also named to the All-Tournament team for their player throughout the weekend.
Southern Miss got on the sheet in the third minute when Cruthirds ripped a shot from 25 yards out off a Kristen Windecker assist to go up 1-0.
In the 15th minute, Tarbell received a pass six yards from the goal and was able to beat the keeper to pad the lead.
The second goal proved to be necessary as the Lady Lions' Nicole Parks-Powell headed in a shot to the top corner off a Silvia Fuentes corner kick.
Hannah Vanderboegh (3-3-0) picked up the win after coming up with three big saves in the second half to keep the Golden Eagles on top. For the Lady Bisons, Olivia Wood (0-3-0) suffered the loss with two saves on the day.
The Golden Eagles will be back on the pitch on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 4 p.m. when they host Mississippi State. The match is a makeup game that was originally scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 4 that was cancelled due to Tropical Storm Lee.
