HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss soccer team closed out the home portion of the regular season with a 4-1 loss to Tulsa Sunday afternoon at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.
"We were not good enough today," head coach Scott Ebke said. "We allowed too many easy goals and did not have enough fight in us the first half to make a difference. We fought back in the second half but ultimately when you dig yourself a 3-0 hole it is hard to dig back out of."
Tulsa (8-9-1, 3-6-1 C-USA) opened the scoring in the 13th minute as Rachel Garcia converted a corner kick for the games first goal. The Golden Hurricane struck for their second goal in the 34th minute as Brandi Hinch nailed a free kick for a 2-0 lead.
Tulsa added to their lead just over three minutes later in the 40th minute as Stephanie Aitken stole the ball and beat Southern Miss keeper Hannah Vanderboegh one v. one inside the box to give Tulsa a 3-0 lead at the half.
Southern Miss (3-13-2, 0-9-1 C-USA) got on the board in the second half as Elisha Tarbell scored her third goal of the season. Freshman Chelsea Cruthirds played the ball into the box and Stefani Buller passed to Tarbell who finished the goal to make the score 3-1.
Tulsa would answer however with a goal just under two minutes later and Jordan O'Brien hit her fourth goal of the year to make the score 4-1.
Southern Miss will play their final game of the season next Friday at UCF.
