Julian Vann begins his first season on the coaching staff of the track and field program and will aid with the jumps.
While at Southern Miss, Vann competed in the long jump and triple jump for Coach John Ellis. He had four of the top five performances on the team in the indoor triple jump. He recorded a season-best mark of 47'11.25.
Prior to coming to Southern Miss, Vann was a three-year letterwinner at Ohio State where he finished 11th in the triple jump at the Big Ten Championships. He also took third in the triple jump at the Jim Clark Invitational and Sea Ray Relays.
The 2009 Georgia 5A state champion in the triple jump and runner-up in the 100m, helped team to be 2009 Georgia State Champions. He placed second in the 2010 Georgia 5A state triple jump and 200m and in 2010 was the bronze medalist in the triple jump at the Georgia Olympics. He holds the Parkview High School record for triple jump with 47'9".
The Lithonia, Ga., native earned his bachelor's degree in political science and is currently working on a master's degree in sport management. He is the son of Fertima and General Vann and has one sister, Franshun Vann.
