Baseball Run Rules James Madison 11-1 Saturday Evening in Eight Innings

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Camden Clark threw six shutout innings while both Joey Urban and Ben Higdon collected three-run home runs to lift No. 12 Southern Miss over James Madison 11-1 Saturday afternoon in eight innings at Veterans Memorial Park to win a Sun Belt Conference series.
The Golden Eagles (36-14 overall, 18-8 Sun Belt) won their fifth game in a row, while winning their fourth-straight league series. The final game of the series is set to take place on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.
Clark retired the first 14 batters he faced before giving up a two-out single in the fifth. He then allowed a walk before getting a popout to second to end the inning. He gave up one single in the sixth, but limited the Dukes (20-28, 10-15) to just three hits and fanned nine while walking one to get the victory and improve to 7-0.
Urban led the way with three hits in the Golden Eagles attack, while Kyle Morrison, Drey Barrett and Higdon all added two hits each.
Southern Miss jumped out early by scoring a solo run in the third inning as Tucker Stockman knocked in the first run with a groundout to second. The Golden Eagles then put the game out of reach with a five-run fourth.
Lawson Odom started the scoring in the fourth with a sacrifice fly, while before Seth Smith, who increased his current hitting streak to 11 games, singled in a run. Urban finished the scoring with a three-run homer to center – 405 feet – for his12th of the year.
The visitors added another run in the sixth on a run-scoring single by Kyle Morrison, before adding four more in the eighth. Barrett knocked the first run in the frame in with a single to right center, before
Higdon finished it with his three-run long ball, his fourth, to give the Golden Eagles an 11-0 advantage.
The Dukes scored their lone run in the eighth as they collected three walks and a hit batter off two Golden Eagle relievers for their only run in the contest.
JMU starter Holden McKinney allowed six runs (one earned) on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings with a walk and two strikeouts to suffer the loss and fall to 2-4.
