HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss (8-7, 1-2 SBC) heads back on the road this weekend to close the regular season with matches at UAB (8-11, 0-0 AAC) on Friday and Nicholls (4-11, 0-7 SLC) on Sunday. First serve is set for 3 p.m. Friday in Birmingham before the Golden Eagles wrap the weekend with a 2 p.m. match Sunday in Thibodaux.
Southern Miss heads into the final weekend of the regular season with momentum after knocking off Tulane 4-3 on Tuesday at the USM Tennis Complex. The win marked the program's first victory over the Green Wave and gave the Golden Eagles a strong finish in their final home match of the spring.
Friday's opener brings a solid test in Birmingham. UAB has been through a demanding spring schedule and will host Southern Miss in its final home match before heading into conference tournament play. For the Golden Eagles, it is another opportunity to carry the form they showed against Tulane into the final stretch before postseason competition begins later this month.
Southern Miss then turns its attention to Nicholls on Sunday in the regular-season finale. The Colonels have spent much of the past two weeks at home and will host Tulane on Saturday before welcoming the Golden Eagles the next day. Nicholls also picked up a 4-0 win over Southern earlier this month and will be looking to build on that as it closes its own regular season.
The weekend gives Southern Miss two more chances to sharpen its game before the Sun Belt Conference Championships. The Golden Eagles will travel Hannah Chambers, Gagana Mohan Kumar, Sakura Sudo, Miranda Xu, Kamornwan Kornsila, Pimmada Lim, Angelina Blinova and Manuella Persson for the trip.
