Women’s Tennis Hosts Tulane in Final Home Match

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss (7-7, 1-2 SBC) returns to the USM Tennis Complex on Tuesday afternoon to host Tulane (9-10, 0-0 AAC) at 2 p.m. in the Golden Eagles' final home match of the regular season. Tuesday's match will also serve as Senior Day for Southern Miss, which will honor Angelina Blinova before first serve.
The home finale comes after Southern Miss had its April 1 match against New Orleans canceled due to rain. Before that, the Golden Eagles had spent much of March on the road, a stretch that included a 4-0 win at Southern and most recently a 4-1 match at Troy, where Miranda Xu earned the team's point with a straight-set win at No. 4 singles.
Tuesday also gives Southern Miss a chance to celebrate Blinova's career in Hattiesburg. The senior from Riga, Latvia transferred to Southern Miss after beginning her collegiate career at Hampton, where she earned Second Team All-CAA singles honors. Since arriving in Hattiesburg, she has been a steady part of the Golden Eagles' lineup, contributing in both singles and doubles play and helping Southern Miss through conference competition over the last two seasons.
Tulane comes to Hattiesburg after a pair of close road losses in Florida, falling 4-2 at FIU and 4-3 at Florida Atlantic. The Green Wave have been tested throughout the spring and will give Southern Miss another strong nonconference matchup as the Golden Eagles look to carry momentum into the final week of the regular season.
For Southern Miss, the match is the final opportunity to play at the USM Tennis Complex before the regular season closes with road matches later this month. It also gives the Golden Eagles a chance to send their senior out the right way on their home courts.
Southern Miss will have Hannah Chambers, Gagana Mohan Kumar, Sakura Sudo, Miranda Xu, Kamornwan Kornsila, Pimmada Lim, Mia Hasashi-Morrissey, Celine Mosteanu, Manuella Persson and Angelina Blinova available for Tuesday's match.
