Â
The No. 10 ranked Golden Eagles (23-9) meet the Privateers (14-20) for the only time this season.
Â
This meeting marks the fifth-straight season the two programs have met in baseball. The Privateers make their third-straight appearance to The Pete as Southern Miss leads the overall series 64-52 as well as holding a 33-23 mark over the Privateers in Hattiesburg. The two teams have also met in the postseason with the Golden Eagles defeating UNO twice in the 2008 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional. Southern Miss won 13-6 and 8-2 in those contests.
Â
Three Golden Eagles currently have hitting streaks of six games or better. Joey Urban enjoys his longest this season so far at 10 games - hitting .333 (13x39) with 14 runs, two 2B, two HR and eight RBI - over this span. His career long includes a 13-gamer, which occurred last season.
Â
Kyle Morrison is next at seven games and has hit safely in 27 of 32 games in 2026, with streaks also of 11 and eight games.
Â
Davis Gillespie has batted safely in each of his last six games. He holds a .391 average during this span (9x23) with seven runs, two doubles, two home runs and 5 RBI. Against Old Dominion, he reached base in eight-straight plate appearance and all five times in Saturday's contest (a single, three walks and on an error).
Â
The Golden Eagles expect to hand redshirt sophomore Drake Meeks the ball on the mound to start in his first game as a collegian. In three appearances this season, Meeks has thrown three innings and allowed a run on two hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
Â
Following the UNO contest, the Golden Eagles take to the road again when they travel to Lafayette this weekend for a Sun Belt visit at Louisiana. The series begins on Friday with a 6 p.m. contest.
