HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball team concludes the non-conference portion of its regular season Tuesday night when they travel to New Orleans for a 6:30 p.m. contest against Tulane at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
The game can be steamed via ESPN+ and can also be heard through an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network as well as at SouthernMiss.com.
The Golden Eagles (31-12) continue their climb up the polls and rank as high as No. 12 in both the D1Baseball.com and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association rankings. Southern Miss won its second consecutive Sun Belt series last weekend, winning two of three at South Alabama. They captured the first two games of the series, before falling in the finale which snapped a six-game winning streak.
The Green Wave (22-23) enters the contest having dropped two of three games at home over the weekend to UTSA.
In the last meeting between the two clubs last Tuesday, Kyle Morrison lofted a 2-2 pitch into right field with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to provide the game-winning single in lifting Southern Miss to a 5-4 victory at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field. The Golden Eagles defeated the Green Wave for the eighth consecutive time. In addition, the win marked the second-straight walk-off for Southern Miss, the sixth of the year and the 39th since the start of the 2017 campaign.
Four Golden Eagles continue to hit over .300 heading into the Tulane contest. Kyle Morrison continues to lead the squad in average at .333, followed by Davis Gillespie at .323. Gillespie also is tied for the lead in home runs with Morrison at 12 and has a team-best 39 RBI.
Seth Smith ranks third on the squad in hitting with a .322 batting mark, while Joey Urban is at .314.
Redshirt sophomore McCarty English (1-1, 4.63 ERA) is scheduled to make his first start since March 22 against Troy against the Green Wave.
Following the Tulane contest, the Golden Eagles return home to play host to ULM in a weekend series starting Friday at 6 p.m.
