Women's Golf Jumps Five Spots on Day Two of League Tournament

POINT CLEAR, Ala. — The Southern Miss women's golf team has soared up the leaderboard at the Sun Belt Championships after posting a 292 on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles have moved up five spots into seventh place at Lakewood Golf Club.
The 292 was the lowest since The Judson at Hattiesburg in late October, and it was the best round in the spring by five strokes. On the individual side, Louise Cuyvers shot a three-under 69 to vault herself into the top five as she is tied with two other golfers in that spot. The junior posted six birdies on the day, including four on the front nine as she went four-under to end her round. Taylor Trible followed with an even-par 72 that featured four birdies.
Trible is now in a tie for 19th, while Savannah Van Gaalen is in a tie for 32nd after a two-over 74. Fernanda Gorostiaga improved from day one, carding a five-over 77. Liv Romer also bested her first round, shooting an eight-over 80. Romer had the first eagle of the tournament for Southern Miss, posting a three on the par-five 16th hole.
Southern Miss had 17 birdies as a team on Tuesday, which moved its tournament total to 28. That is second behind ULM's 31 and four better than the next on the list. Romer's eagle is one of four on the week so far, with golfers from Georgia Southern, Coastal Carolina, and Texas State also posting one.
